The Date Festival, Morocco

The Date Festival, Morocco is one of the most popular of the various Morocco festivals & events and is held in the month of October in the Northern Sahara town of Erfoud. It is a three-day long festival.

The small town of Erfoud is the nesting place of nearly a million date-palm trees and practically the entire townsfolk depends on the dates for their livelihood. It is no wonder that the Date Festival, Morocco is their way of celebrating a bountiful harvest and praying for a bumper harvest the coming year.

Festival of Sacrifice - Marrakech 7 Nov, 2011

Fast approaching is one of the most important holidays on the Muslim calendar.  This year Eid Al-Adha, also referred to as Eid Al-Kabir – the "Big Holiday" – because of its tremendous significance, will take place on 7 Nov, and generally lasts for 3 days.

Eid Al-Adha translates to "Festival of Sacrifice" and commemorates the Prophet Abraham's willingness to obey God when he envisioned that he was to sacrifice his son. Muslims observe this day by slaughtering an animal – usually a sheep, goat or cow – according to humane Islamic guidelines, and then offering much of its meat in charity.

It's a fascinating time to stay in a Marrakech riad and witness the local culture - there's a sense of excitement in the air, especially among the Marrakechi children, who also receive new clothes for the festival.  During this time you can savour some of the most delicious Moroccan lamb dishes.

Don't delay in making your reservation today.
